South Yarra Residence

This unique home in South Yarra features a walk-through bridge that joins the new contemporary building with the existing traditional structure. 

The design of the new building is distinctively modern, however many of the elements, such as the red brick and the timber windows, reference the materials used in the original home.

Cedar West replaced the existing Georgian sash windows and shutters in the original building with new double-hung windows with traditional, heritage details. In contrast, the new doors and windows supplied for the addition feature contemporary, square profiles to delineate between the old and new structures. Cedar West supplied all of the timber windows, doors and gates for the new parts of the home, including the beautiful arched Andover doors and tower of casement and fixed windows.  

The alterations and additions for the building were designed by Kennedy Nolan and constructed by Ben Thomas Builder.
